Meet Gobind Chera - Account Executive at The Missing Link

At The Missing Link, our people are what set us apart. Their expertise, curiosity, and commitment to continuous improvement underpin the outcomes we deliver for our clients every day. But technical capability is only part of the story.

Through this series, we spotlight the individuals behind the work, exploring the experiences, passions, and perspectives that shape their approach to their roles.

For Gobind Chera, relationships have always come first. Whether he's helping clients solve challenges or spending weekends with his family, people are at the centre of what he does. A lifelong technology enthusiast, he has built a career spanning tech, film and retail before returning to the industry, where he's spent the past two decades building trusted relationships with clients.

Outside of work, Gobind is a proud family man, foodie and movie buff who loves spending time with his wife, two boys and Mini Schnauzer, Klara. From family adventures to cheering on the kids and squeezing in the occasional gadget upgrade, it's the people around him who matter most.

Let's take five minutes to get to know him better.

What do people know you as?

Gobind Chera, aka Gobes, aka Gobi 1.

Where did you grow up, and what were you into as a kid?

I was born in England and came to Sydney with my family when I was eight. I always loved cricket and sport, reading, films, and being a horrendous geek for all things sci-fi and fantasy.

What did you want to be when you grew up, and what was your first job?

When I was five years old, I wanted to drive an ice cream van (I had big dreams!). But as I got older, I became increasingly interested in technology. I think I had the first PC on our street, but it was used for 90% gaming and 10% work. It was a Pentium 286 with a 40MB hard drive. Yep, I'm that old! 😂

My first job was working in the family catering business. My mates still comment on my mum's cooking to this day. It was her influence that made me a foodie.

Give us the highlights of your career journey so far.

I started in tech, spent some time in film and retail, and then returned to technology, where I've now been for 20 years. I've worked across both the SMB and enterprise space as a Sales Executive, then as a Sales & Marketing Manager for a smaller IT company, before moving into my current role as an Account Executive at The Missing Link.

What's something you're really proud of, at work or outside of it?

I love martial arts and taught and trained for almost 25 years. I also loved being a surf lifesaver, which allowed me to give back to the community. That was all before becoming a dad, which has become my greatest achievement and newest passion.

What led you to join The Missing Link?

I was approached by The Missing Link over four years ago. I'd also heard from a good friend and coworker that The Missing Link's sales team were high performers, which, now that I'm part of the team, I can honestly say is true.

My first interview with Ash Steadman (our Modern Infrastructure & AI Sales Manager) pretty much won me over. I was looking for the right cultural fit, and somewhere I could continue to grow both my role and my capabilities.

What is your role at The Missing Link and what do you enjoy most about it?

I'm an Account Executive here. I love that the job is never stagnant. Technology is always moving, and the landscape is constantly evolving to enhance businesses, improve users' capabilities, and better protect them.

But most of all, I love building relationships with my clients and helping them on their journey.

Where do you see yourself professionally, a few years down the line?

I love client interactions, whether they are big or small. With the Infosys relationship, I see my focus growing into the larger SMB and the enterprise space, while maintaining those great relationships with our existing clientele. I know my role will always have me keeping a close eye on and understanding those emerging technologies. I'd also love to see The Missing Link continue to grow globally and be part of expanding our footprint.

Are you a bit of a tech enthusiast? Any favourite gadgets?

I don't game as much as I used to, but as my boys get older, I can see that changing pretty soon. I'll just have to accidentally immerse myself in whatever's popular with them at the time. I have a feeling a Nintendo might be around the

corner! At the moment, I'm having fun playing around with my Sonos sound system at home, centralising everything and making sure our movie and music experience is as good as it can be.

If money wasn't an issue, describe your dream day?

I'd be adventuring through the countryside around the world with my family, visiting beautiful places, having amazing experiences, and eating great food!

What can you generally be found doing on weekends?

Weekends are family time. We do everything together: sport, playing with our puppy, spending time with the kids' grandparents, and, of course, the hundreds of birthdays and functions that come with our network of school, sport, family and friends.

What keeps you busy outside of work?

We have a 10-month-old Mini Schnauzer called Klara, who we absolutely love. Taking her and the kids on walks and adventures is something I really enjoy.

I also love watching movies, whether it's with the kids on a weekend night or with my wife. It's one of my favourite ways to unwind.

What would you say is the best thing about living in your city?

It may be cliché, but Sydney (Australia, in fact) has it all: the beaches, the national parks, the mountains and the waterfalls. We feel truly blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world.
