At The Missing Link, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Their expertise and dedication drive IT transformation for our clients, delivering real impact every day. But there’s more to them than just their roles! In this series, we take a closer look at the unique passions, experiences, and quirks that make our team who they are, both inside and outside of work.
Muhammad joined The Missing Link in 2018 as Principal Security Architect. He brings global experience, sharp technical skills, and an unwavering love for cricket to his role. Whether he’s problem-solving for clients or captaining a match on the weekend, his energy is grounded in purpose and a passion for people, technology, and continuous learning.
Let’s take five minutes to get to know Muhammad a little better.
I grew up in Karachi, Pakistan- one of the busiest, most vibrant cities in the world. If you can survive Karachi traffic, you can survive anything!
As a kid, I was absolutely cricket obsessed. My dream was to become the fastest bowler and play for the Pakistan National Team. That dream was cut short by a shoulder injury that bowled me out early, but my love for the game never faded.
I didn’t have a dream job in the traditional sense, but I always saw myself starting my own business, just like my dad. Entrepreneurship was in the blood.
I started working early, tutoring part-time, but my first official role was as a receptionist and programmer at a pathology lab. I was the friendly face at the front desk and the tech brain behind it.
After my first job, I launched my own IT training institute, then moved into a network solutions company where I tested products and deepened my technical knowledge.
My big break in cyber security came when I joined a US-based firewall company, that’s when everything clicked. I went on to spend 11 incredible years in Kuwait as a security consultant, gaining global experience and honing my skills. Now, I’m living the Aussie dream in Melbourne and continuing my journey in the world of cyber security.
It was actually my first job in Australia. I took a short detour for about six or seven months, but, like all great love stories, I found my way back. And I’ve been enjoying the ride ever since.
My role revolves around solving problems, working on exciting projects, and helping clients improve their security posture. What I love most is that no two days are the same. I get to think creatively, tackle fresh challenges, and deliver meaningful impact.
On the personal front, one of my proudest moments was captaining my district cricket team to a tournament win. It’s a memory I still cherish. Professionally, being recognised as Juniper Networks’ Master of IT in 2006 was a major milestone and one I’m still incredibly proud of.
My dad has always been my biggest inspiration. He’s not from a tech background, but his discipline, focus, and work ethic have shaped the way I approach everything in life.
As for the future, hopefully still doing what I love, just on a bigger scale. Maybe in a different role at The Missing Link, or even building something new from scratch. I’m not sure what yet... but if it somehow combines cricket and cyber security, I’ll know I’ve nailed it.
I used to be! These days, I’m more focused on making the most of what we already have, but I still keep an eye on what’s new. Old habits die hard. In cyber security, you can’t afford to fall behind; if you blink, you might miss an entirely new threat category.
I’d have to say my favourite gadget is easily my cricket bat. Best piece of tech ever. When it comes to apps, Microsoft Excel is my secret weapon. It helps me plan, think, analyse… and sometimes even win arguments.
A full day spent with family in a peaceful place, far from the noise, stress, and politics of everyday life. Simple, quiet, and meaningful.
Most weekends, you’ll find me on the cricket field. I still play competitively and never pass up a good game. Cricket keeps my heart racing, while my family keeps me grounded. And when I’m not doing either, you’ll probably find me at the BBQ. Cooking is my therapy, and BBQ nights at my place are kind of legendary.
Over the years, I’ve travelled and worked around the world, met incredible people, played cricket in the most unexpected places, and eaten food I still dream about. Every culture I’ve encountered has taught me something new.
Melbourne has my heart. It’s beautiful, vibrant, and full of soul. And the coffee is elite! Whether I’m relaxing in a park with my family or gearing up for a weekend match, there’s a calm energy to the city that just feels like home. No complaints, except maybe just the occasional mood swing from the weather!
