The Background

BPAY has been the leader in electronic bill payment and presentment services in Australia since 1997, enabling thousands of payments to be made every day. The fast, secure and convenient service covers 95 per cent of the consumer market and is continuing to grow with the development of cutting edge technologies and products that will make online payments easier than ever.

The Challenge

BPAY were moving to a new premise and wanted to create a state-of-the-art, activity-based workplace to foster collaboration and flexible working. They needed increased security from their previous set-up to allow for the new configuration and required the latest authentication technology to enable staff to easily move around the universal workspace or work remotely, no matter what device or operating system they were using.

The Partnership

The Missing Link and BPAY have had a long-standing relationship for over five years. We were excited to be given the opportunity to assist them with their new office security and networking solution.

“BPAY has had a long and successful relationship with The Missing Link working on a variety of projects. This project was no exception, any challenges encountered along the way were handled professionally and in a timely manner to ensure tight deadlines were met and a successful deployment was achieved.”
- Sean Ollerton, Principal Engineer, Converged Technologies.

The Solution

The Missing Link architected a Cisco powered corporate wireless and wired network. A guest network, universal workstations and, security and authentication tools were also part of the overall solution. The solution included all network devices, workstation cabling and peripherals, and a strict deadline to adhere too.

“The solution tied in with our existing Architecture requirements maintaining a consistent environment, while providing a state of the art setup for the new office allowing the transition to Activity Based working. A key component of the project was the ability to provision the network equipment offsite as the new office was still under construction. The Missing Link was able to accommodate this in their Artarmon office to ensure there was no additional delays once deployment was possible.”
- Sean Ollerton, Principal Engineer, Converged Technologies.

Solution specifications included;
> Cisco Aironet network
> Cisco 5500 series wireless LAN controllers
> Aironet 3702 wireless access points (using 802.11 AC)
> Cisco Wireless Security & Spectrum Intelligence Module (WSSI)
> Cisco Prime Mobility Services Engine.

The solution needed to factor in not only a seamless network and general security, but the security and interference that comes from working in a densely populated area like the Sydney CBD. The Cisco products are enterprise-class and mitigate the risks that were identified.

Business Benefits

The new network and integrated solution allows full optimisation of the workspace, validating the investment. Integration of 802.1x authentication on the Wired and Wireless networks allowed increased security over the previous office setup by separating various business roles onto different network segments.

Efficiencies achieved include:
> Increased collaboration
> Fosters innovation and autonomy
> Dynamic environment has positively impacted staff.
