Meet Ash Hucker - Security Campaign Manager at The Missing Link

At The Missing Link, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Their expertise and dedication drive IT transformation for our clients, delivering real impact every day. But there’s more to them than just their roles! In this series, we take a closer look at the unique passions, experiences, and quirks that make our team who they are, both inside and outside of work.

From junior footy at Leichhardt Oval to studying counterterrorism, and from event marketing to launching national tech campaigns, Ash’s career has been a journey of reinvention and curiosity. Now, as our Security Campaign Manager, she’s the strategic force behind many of the stories and solutions we take to market. Grounded, creative, and passionate about connecting people to purpose, Ash thrives at the intersection of storytelling and technology.

Let’s take five minutes to get to know her better.

Tell us about yourself. Where did you grow up and what were your interests as a kid?

I grew up in Birchgrove with my mum, just down the road from Leichhardt Oval, which, for a rugby league-obsessed kid like me, was a dream. I played junior footy there and still love going to games, especially to cheer on the mighty Wests Tigers.

I also played tennis growing up and was lucky enough to get a scholarship to college in Georgia, USA. And somewhere in between all the sport, I was absolutely obsessed with LEGO - a passion that hasn’t really gone away!

What was your dream job growing up, and what was your first paid job?

From a young age, I was set on joining the FBI. I studied in the US, then returned home to complete another degree in Social Science – Intelligence and Counter Terrorism. Unfortunately, my asthma stopped me from joining any government agencies, which became a major turning point in my career.

My first paid job was at 15 and 9 months, working at Ocean Foods in Five Dock. I took pickup orders over the phone and folded what felt like a million fish and chip boxes!

What’s your career progression been like?

It’s been an exciting mix of industries and roles. I started out in hospitality and events at The Observatory Hotel (now the Langham Hotel), moving from Events Coordinator to Event Marketing Manager. That gave me a strong grounding in experience delivery and behind-the-scenes operations.

From there, I moved into sales and marketing roles at Jones the Grocer and Macquarie Telecom, which sparked my love for brand and campaign work. Later, I became Operations Manager at the Hordern Pavilion; fast-paced and very people-focused, managing events and teams.

During that time, I also completed my degree in Intelligence and Counter Terrorism, which broadened my view on strategy, risk, and the evolving world of security.

Before joining The Missing Link, I worked in the education sector with NextEd Group, leading national campaigns for their Technology & Design division- a great blend of strategy, creativity, and tech.

Now I’m here at The Missing Link as Campaign Manager for our Security division, combining everything I’ve learned to help bring our cyber security services to life in meaningful, people-first ways.

Do you have any personal or professional achievements you're particularly proud of?

This year has been a big one! I'm getting married at the end of November, which I'm incredibly excited about.

On the professional side, being nominated for the Women in Digital Awards was a real highlight. It was such an honour and a great reminder of how far I’ve come.

It’s one of those rare moments where everything seems to be moving forward, personally and professionally, and I’m incredibly proud (and grateful) for it all.

What’s your role at The Missing Link, and what do you love most about it?

I’m the Campaign Manager for the Security division. My role is all about driving go-to-market campaigns that translate our cyber security services, like managed security, offensive testing, and advisory, into messaging that resonates.

I collaborate closely with technical experts and sales teams to make sure our stories and solutions reach the right people in the right way. I actually started out working across Infrastructure and Automation, which gave me a solid understanding of the business and how our service lines connect.

Moving into Security felt like a natural step. It’s fast-paced, always evolving, and incredibly rewarding. What I love most is the variety, the collaboration, and the chance to turn complex ideas into campaigns that genuinely connect. It’s a role that’s both creative and strategic, and I love seeing our work translate into real results for our clients.Tenable partner briefing

Where do you see yourself professionally in a few years?

In a few years, I see myself continuing to grow as a marketing leader in the cyber security space, ideally shaping strategy at a higher level and mentoring others starting out in tech marketing.

I love blending creativity with technical storytelling, so I’ll definitely still be doing that. And maybe by then, I’ll have figured out how to explain what I do to my family without their eyes glazing over.

Do you consider yourself a tech-freak and do you have a favourite gadget?

I wouldn’t say I’m a full-blown tech-freak, but I’ve always been curious about how things work. I’m the kind of person who pulls things apart just to see what’s inside, and (mostly) puts them back together.

I’ve been obsessed with LEGO since I was a kid and still am. There’s something about building, problem-solving, and seeing it all come together that scratches the same itch as tech and marketing. As for gadgets, anything that lets me tinker, build, or automate instantly gets my attention.

5 mins with Oreo

If money wasn’t an issue, what would your dream day look like?

It would start with a bottomless brunch- great food, great company, and no limit on mimosas. Then I’d head off for a camping weekend somewhere quiet with an amazing view, no reception, and a campfire ready to go.

I’d spend the afternoon building LEGO by the fire- something ridiculously complicated, because when money’s no issue, there’s no rush. The day would wrap up with good music, great friends, and no responsibilities.

Basically: sunshine, LEGO, and snacks on repeat.

What can you generally be found doing on weekends?

Weekends are a mix of things, usually renovating our house with my soon-to-be wife Harriet, keeping our rabbit Oreo out of trouble, and sneaking in a few games of chess.

If we’re not covered in paint or at Bunnings for the fifth time, we’re probably out camping or having drinks with friends. I like to think I’ve struck a good balance between being productive and embracing my inner child.

I love hands-on projects. There’s something so satisfying about seeing a renovation come together. Oreo, the rabbit, is usually overseeing operations.

Outside of that, I’m into anything that blends creativity and problem-solving: DIY jobs, chess, camping, building LEGO, or spending time with friends. Whether I’m at work or off the clock, I’m happiest when I’m doing something that involves building, connecting, and learning.

What would you say is the best thing about living in your city?

For me, it’s the balance. You can be in the middle of the city one minute and at the beach, feeding chickens, or walking through the bush the next.

Sydney has this great mix of energy and calm- there’s always something happening, but you can still find space to recharge. A great coffee, a bottomless brunch, and a coastal walk? All in one day. Plus, I’ll never get tired of that harbour view. It’s the ultimate weekend backdrop.
